Training is an integral part of Hospice East Rand to ensure our staff and volunteers maintain the quality palliative care offered to patients and families in our care.
Caregivers course:This course is a prerequisite for all volunteers wishing to become involved in patient care. It is made up of three modules.
Personal Growth teaches you to understand yourself. Before you can empathise with others you need to be comfortable with your own emotions.
Duration: Six weeks, one morning per week.
Counselling Skills teaches you listening skills to effectively support our patients and their families.
Duration: Two weeks, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 9:00 to 16:00.
Bereavement Counselling teaches you the five steps of grieving and impowers you to enable our bereaved family members to adjust to their loss.
Duration: Six weeks, one morning per week.
WHO CAN ATTEND: Any interested persons.
Course fees cover lectures inclusive of all printed material, certificate on completion and teas.

Please note: Having completed the course there is an interview process to evaluate suitability for caregiving work.
Introduction to Palliative Care:This one week course is geared towards health professionals and includes:
Palliative care, ethics, communication, breaking bad news, pain and symptom control, use of the syringe driver.
